Monetary rewards:

Giving children an allowance is what Singaporean parents do to provide the funds their children need for daily expenses and to also help them learn about managing money. More than just giving your children cash, however, the future is a cashless society, so we must adapt and use digital money management.

It’s important to figure out the right amount and how to support children to use their money to improve their financial skills.

Parents can make payments to their children in 3 ways, as follows:
  1. Monthly allowance – is an allowance of a set amount given on a monthly basis on a reoccurring basis.
  2. Pocket money may be given more frequently (one-off, daily, weekly, fortnightly, etc.) and in different amounts on a reoccurring basis or one-off.
  3. Rewards for tasks completed, according to how you choose to reward your child for tasks/targets achieved, including
    • Monetary payments
    • Non-monetary rewards such as extra time to play with friends, go to the movies or an event with friends.
    • Bonus rewards
